4 Wellness Travel Trends To Try This Summer
For us, factoring in a hefty dose of self-care on any getaway goes without saying; we’ve been doing it for over 50 years and we’re always on the lookout for ways to make it even better. This season, our wanderlust is fixed on holistic summer holidays that nourish our health. To help you plan your next trip, we’ve rounded up our top travel trends so you can feel good inside and out.
1.Mindful Movement
…Is the new buzzword this year. Given recent years, it’s no surprise that we want to hold onto the joy we found from being immersed in nature – the ultimate way of rejuvenating the brain while getting the rewarding feeling from challenging the body. From hiking trails through Colorado Springs to paddleboarding in the Providenciales and forest bathing in Nordic woodlands, our craving for physical activity keeps climbing. Look for retreats that have both spa and fitness sessions, like 7 Pines Ibiza’s yoga overlooking the Mediterranean.
2.Skin Food
While holidays used to be an excuse to rebel against diets, it’s now an ideal time to explore new dishes that bring out your best self. Think: fresh, plant-based ingredients with anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory properties that do wonders for your skin, nail and hair growth. As Laura Dean, Marketing Executive for Pride of Britain Hotels says, ‘‘Wellness can’t be left in the treatment room, but must take centre stage on the plate’’. That’s why resorts pair their spa services with menus that focus on the finest, locally-sourced (and still indulgent) recipes.
We love: Nu Sana at Rockliffe Hall in County Durham for their harissa tofu buddha bowl, best served after a restorative Himalayan salt treatment.
"Travelers are really seeking revitalising holiday experiences which has led to an increased demand for wellness moments as part of a customer’s stay, be that forest baths, yoga retreats or restorative bathing rituals."
Emily Delehanty, Senior Manager, Global Brand Management
3.Hydrotherapy
AKA the healing powers of water to ease muscle tension. You can embrace this simply with our travel size toiletries to recreate your favourite Molton Brown bathing ritual or a floatation pod which allows you to relax so deeply without the pull of gravity.
Be the first: For a herbaceous hit to your soothing soak, unearth our new aromatherapy Hotel collection – Reviving Rosemary – launching at The Athenaeum. This nature-driven oasis is in the heart of Mayfair, London (which also happens to be the original home of Molton Brown!)
4.Destination: Sleep
We all need our precious zzzs. If you’ve been endlessly tossing and turning, you’re not alone. With many of us struggling to wind down at night, our lack of proper rest has affected our mood, memory and energy levels. Enter ‘sleep tourism’: a snooze-centric getaway that helps you calm and reset a busy mind. From a remote, star-gazing glamping site in the Texas wild to checking in to a sleep retreat (complete with expert-approved programmes), this new trend could be just what you need to return to your everyday fully refreshed and stimulated.
